Darning
Darning is a technique that has fallen out of favour in recent years but here at Mads do & Mend CIC we’re determined to bring it back through darning workshops designed to help you keep the clothes you already own last longer and out of landfill.
Darning is a great practical skill and relaxing craft we can easily do at home by helping us unwind from the busy lives we lead, whilst also being more conscious of our clothing choices.

Sashiko
This workshop is an introduction to the Japanese Art of Sashiko Stitching. ‘Sashiko’ meaning ‘little stab’ is a beautiful way to mend, add strength to garments, utilise patching techniques as well as explore traditional patterns using a simple running stitch.
Sashiko is both a practical and creative way to mend and repair clothing and textiles. We learn all about the different skills, materials and tools needed to carry on and practise this skill at home

Re- Fashion with Printing
This workshop is a creative way to re-fashion and upcycle an existing garment you own using traditional block printing techniques. We use traditional carved Indian blocks to print with, and show you how to amend and update your existing clothes by adding bold and creative print. This is a great way to cover small stains and marks or simply update an item in your wardrobe to give it a new lease of life, and ensure the longevity of the clothes that you already own.
This is a great way to utilise your creativity with traditional print techniques to re-fashion and re-vamp your clothing. Remember, the most sustainable wardrobe is the one you already own.
